Shipyard History
The Italian Sea Group’s flagship yard, Admiral has built a large number of yachts since it was founded in 1962. A highly respected Italian superyacht builder strongly believes in the quality and attention to detail that ‘Made in Italy’ represents and is always evolving its offering through design, production and systems. At its large, modern facility, Admiral builds aluminum and steel yachts up to 100m. Both Admiral and the Italian Sea Group pride themselves on offering a luxury experience, made up of quality, attention to detail, design, art and innovation in one bespoke package.
Admiral follows strict quality standards throughout the yacht building procedure, beginning with the design process. Attention to detail is important, and this is a philosophy that extends throughout the entire construction procedure. “The attention to detail at every step guarantees efficiency and quality,” is a philosophy that sits at the heart of the yard. Over 25 interior designers work in the Italian Sea Group’s design team, helping to realize every owner’s bespoke vision and making use of luxurious and prestigious materials. Extensive investment into the yard has resulted in a world-class facility.
Shipyard Specialty
In the 1950s, Admiral Yachts began the production of wooden motor yachts in Lavagna. Both the Admiral brand and model range expanded during the 60s and 70s. The first 30m Admiral yacht launched in the early 70s. In the late 70s, the Cantieri Navali Lavagna began building full aluminium yachts. Since then, Admiral's fleet has increased in size with projects reaching 100m.
The Admiral brand has always been associated with Italian style and sportiveness. Admiral Yachts has formed part of The Italian Sea Group since 2009, alongside Tecnomar. Admiral's historical facility was moved from Lavagna to Marina di Carrara. The Admiral shipyard now focuses on building semi-custom and full-custom motor yachts with steel and aluminium hulls. Admiral's wide model range allows buyers to opt for different hull configurations from fast to long range to high volume: planing, semi-displacement or full displacement. The current yard's size range for motor yachts stretches from 37 to 100m.
Notable deliveries and models
The Italian Sea Group’s takeover of Admiral was regarded as an opportunity to revive the iconic Italian shipyard. Admiral’s rebrand was kickstarted with the launch of new and larger models: Regale, C-Force, Impero, Maxima and later the Momentum and S-Force model lines. The first yacht from The Italian Sea Group era was the 40m Giraud (ex-Cacos V) delivered in 2013. Many other launches followed, such as the 50m Ouranos or 38m Safe Haven (ex-Nono). The shipyard accepted the challenge to build a 73m explorer, which completed in 2017 under the name of Planet Nine. The launch of 2020 S-Force 55m Geco, originally known as Project Piuma, was a big milestone for Admiral in terms of creating a new benchmark in the yachting industry. In late 2021, Admiral went a step further in innovative exterior design with the launch of the 75m Kenshō.
Design collaborations on models and projects
Admiral yachts’ distinctive exterior style is largely penned by Italian designers Luca Dini and Paolo Caliari. The design collaboration between Admiral and Luca Dini still remains today, with the designer working on a few of Admiral’s new ranges.
New build projects in the Marina di Carrara facility vary between 55m to 100m. These large yacht projects increase the involvement of international designers, such as Winch Design for the 100 Project Titanium, Sinot Yacht for Project Blue Marlin, Azure Yacht Design for Kenshō, Tim Heywood for Planet Nine, Giorgio Armani, Vitruvius and Gian Marco Companino Design for Geco.
